April is the Cruellest Month... and National Poetry Month

In honor of National Poetry Month, we have composed a cento.

"A what?"

A cento. It is a poetry form that patches together other people's poems to make a new one. Think of it as a remix of sorts, but the rhythm is a little more subtle (or uneven) than a bass heavy dance slammer.

Steal This Poem
April is the cruellest month
When lilacs last in dooryard bloom'd
Let us now celebrate poets and liars,
Liars and poets for we are both those things
You sit with your notebook and after a while
Something begins to interest you;
Not a still life into which artifice may enter
Until understanding is so profound
That we return to a state before we even had language
For art is a form of catharsis.
Of course, I am an authentic American poet
I always write with disposable pens
And a voice in my heart cried:
The buildings sure is tall here! I love yooouu! Hootie hoot!
Then the substanceless blue
We hope to provoke you to write, read and teach more,
Like poetry vending machines.

See, that was fun. Now you try.
